What is Vitamin K2 (MK-7) 100mcg - 60 Veg Caps?

Menaquinone (K2) is the active form of vitamin K, as opposed to its K1 version (phylloquinone, from plants), which appears to be more potent and bioavailable. A relationship has also been found between the length of the vitamin's carbon chain and its bioavailability, with MK-7 being the most studied and validated.
Vitamin K2 (MK-7) 100mcg - 60 Veg Caps is suitable for vegans.
What is Vitamin K?
Vitamin K is an essential vitamin, of the liposolube type, whose main contributions to our health are:
- Vitamin K contributes to normal blood clotting.
Vitamin K contributes to the maintenance of normal bones.
Types of Vitamin K
There are 3 types of vitamin K:
- Vitamin K1: also known as phylloquine, it comes from green vegetables and legumes. The extraction of this vitamin from vegetables by our bodies is quite poor - it is estimated that the percentage of utilisation is around 10%.
- Vitamin K2: also known as menaquinone, and is the type with the highest absorption rate. Sources of vitamin K2 are animal foods and fermented foods. There are several subtypes of K2, such as MK-4 and MK-7.
- Vitamin K3: is of artificial origin and is injected into newborns.
Vitamin K2 (MK-7) as the best form of Vitamin K
Vitamin K2 which provides Vitamin K2 (MK-7) is considered the best option when choosing a source of Vitamin K. It is of the Menaquinone-7 type.
The difference in absorption of K2 versus K1 is due to the fact that vitamin K2 is a fermentation product from bacteria (K2 is found in fermented dairy products), and that unlike in other animals, such as ruminants, the conversion of K1 to K2 is not effective in humans.
The presence of K1 in the diet is usually 10 times higher than K2.
Vitamin K2 (MK-7) and Natto
Vitamin K2 (MK-7) 100mcg comes from Natto, one of the richest sources. Natto is a type of food derived from soybeans fermented in the traditional Japanese way.
