Let's expand a little more on the specific characteristics of this certification so that you have all the information on our quality guarantees.

What is veganism?
Veganism is a movement that conditions the behaviour of its practitioners, known as vegans, and is characterised by the following characteristics:
"the principle of the emancipation of animals from exploitation by man",
according to the definition provided by The Vegan Society.
Is there a difference between Vegetarianism and Veganism?
Vegetarianism, and its practitioners, vegetarians, defend the total abstention of any animal ingredient that supposes a suffering to a living being, while by-products of the same, such as milk, eggs, or honey; are normally accepted by this practice.
The "suitable for vegetarians" certification from HSN takes into account "ovo-lacto-vegetarianism".
Veganism, or strict vegetarianism, rejects any product derived from the subjugation of animal life by man, conceiving its industrial exploitation as a violation of their freedoms as living beings.
HSN food supplements and food preparations classified as "suitable for vegans" do not contain any ingredients of animal origin in their composition.
How can I make sure?
At HSN, we follow good production practices and are certified by Bureau Veritas as a GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) manufacturer. You can read more about this here.
Many members of our staff, brand partners, customers, friends and family are vegetarian and vegan, and our policy is to ensure complete freedom from animal ingredients in the composition of products labelled as "suitable".
For this reason, storage, production control and quality control all have their own specific part dedicated to monitoring the ingredients used in the manufacture of the products.
My product contains traces, does that mean it isn't vegan?
It's possible you'll find products labelled "suitable for vegans" with traces of non-vegan ingredients.
Why?
Because traces don't imply the presence of the ingredient in the product, so it continues to be vegan.
The traces simply refer to the fact that the plant where the food preparation or food supplement in question is developed works with the ingredients mentioned
Your product does not contain these ingredients, but other products manufactured in the same factory may contain them.
This indication refers to possible particles which may be dispersed in the environment (through the air) and which pose a risk to persons allergic to them.
Traces are not ingredients present in a products, simply a safety precaution for problem with health issues.
All of the ingredients in a product are listed under the "Ingredients".
I've been told by a vegan that I shouldn’t consume anything with animal traces
Veganism is an ethical movement, and as such, has different moral positions on the subject.
Certain practitioners may take a position against products that contain an indication of possible traces in their composition, even though they aren't present as an ingredient in the product, only mentioned in terms of possible environmental cross-contamination.
At HSN we've taken the decision to consider as "vegan" a product that may contain traces after consulting with experts on the subject, and under the premise that a vegan product without traces could only be created in an exclusively vegan factory, which would be logistically unfeasible for a company which also markets non-vegan products.
Simply ask yourself the following questions when in doubt whether you should buy a product:
- If you go to the house of an acquaintance (a friend or relative) and they prepare a 100% vegan dish, but there are non-vegan ingredients in their kitchen because their family doesn't follow this practice, what would you eat at their house?
- If you go to a restaurant that prepares dishes suitable for vegans, but they have other non-vegan dishes on their menu, would you eat there?
If your answer is yes to both questions, you can buy the product with traces.
Since in both of the above situations, traces of environmental exposure will be present in your dish, even if not as an ingredient, and your dish is still 100% vegan.
