Guaranteed French origin
Pycnogenol® is a registered patent that exclusively uses French maritime pine bark extract (Pinus pinaster), grown in the forests of the Landes region, in the southwest of France.
This French-sourced raw material is renowned for its high concentration of natural procyanidins, the compound in which it is standardised, as well as for containing other non-standardised polyphenols such as proanthocyanidins, flavonoids, and phenolic acids, which have been widely studied.
The use of this controlled and high-quality source is why it has earned a strong global reputation in the field of dietary supplements.
Pycnogenol® Patent - The most famous on the market
Pycnogenol® is a registered trademark of the Horphag Research laboratory, which has been in operation for over 60 years. In its Berlin-based laboratories, it developed a unique compound, a water-soluble flavonoid extracted from the bark of the French maritime pine: Pycnogenol® French Maritime Pine Bark Extract.
Over the past 40 years, Horphag Research has invested millions of dollars in extensive scientific research to ensure the safety and efficacy of Pycnogenol® as a premium ingredient.
HSN shares the same strong commitment to scientific research as Horphag Research, whose founder's original global vision decades ago continues to drive the company's commitment to research and development today.
French Maritime Pine Bark Extract, Pycnogenol®, is now one of the most extensively researched ingredients available in the dietary supplement market, with over 450 scientific publications.
25mg per capsule - The recommended dose from the manufacturer
The 25 mg dose per vegetable capsule of Pycnogenol®, with a daily recommendation of 2 vegetable capsules, is considered ideal by Horphag Research due to the clinical studies supporting its efficacy and safety at this amount. Research conducted by the company has demonstrated that 50 mg per day (2 capsules of 25 mg) provides optimal nutritional effects. This dose has been widely tested in clinical trials. In addition, Pycnogenol® at these amounts has sufficient bioavailability to ensure its absorption and overall action.

Horphag Research also supports that this dose allows for safe long-term supplementation, which is crucial for those seeking the positive effects of French Maritime Pine Bark Extract.
The company has found that at this concentration, Pycnogenol® can be used continuously without the need for breaks, and that this dose is both sufficient and effective. This balanced approach maximises results in a completely safe way, making it ideal for continuous use in a daily regimen.
Standardised to Procyanidins - Key identifiable compounds
Procyanidins are a group of phenolic compounds found in various plants, particularly in fruits, vegetables, and seeds. Chemically, procyanidins are flavanol oligomers, formed by the bonding of flavan-3-ol units such as catechin and epicatechin. These molecules assemble into chains of varying length and structure, giving them complexity in composition. The chemical structure of procyanidins influences their ability to form complexes with other substances, which is relevant to their standardisation and control in products like Pycnogenol®, which is why it is so highly regarded.
The standardisation of Pycnogenol® to 70% procyanidins means that a significant proportion of the extract consists of these specific molecules. This process ensures that the final product maintains a consistent and predictable concentration of procyanidins, regardless of variations in the original raw material. Standardisation not only ensures batch-to-batch consistency but also facilitates comparison and evaluation of the extract in terms of its precise composition.
One of the highest concentrations for an extract
A solvent-free extraction process resulting in an extract that is 1000 times more concentrated, as presented by this French maritime pine extract, is a significant advantage as it ensures a highly potent final product without degradation of its native active compounds.
By avoiding harsh solvents, the natural properties of the extract are preserved and exposure to potential residues is minimised, resulting in a superior quality dietary supplement. This high concentration also indicates an efficient and effective extraction process, allowing for greater benefits from the raw material in smaller quantities of product, which can translate into a more effective dose compared to another product with a lower extraction ratio.

Great product
Gabriel 30/09/2024
I have been using French maritime pine extract for years, and now I can finally enjoy it from my best brand: HSN. It has a lot of scientific studies on its benefits so anyone can see them. I find the price and the large number of intakes very correct. A highly recommended product.
