Angelica sinensis, colloquially known as Dong Quai, is a plant with a characteristic nutritional composition, which has made it a highly valued supplement in different Asian cultures where its preparations have been used for centuries by the indigenous population of the region.

Among the most appreciated compounds of the plant are the whole group of specific polysaccharides of Angelica; its composition includes:

  •  Decursin.
  •  Decursinol.
  •  Marmesin.
  •  Nodakenin.
  •  Ferulic acid.

And many more compounds, among which stands out the main characterization of Dong Quai: ligustilide.

The usual extraction treatment used in dietary supplements from many brands includes the use of ethanol and other aggressive solvents, which, while very effective in greatly concentrating the raw material used to prepare the extract, can significantly degrade its native composition. Therefore, no matter how concentrated the extract is, if its nutritional composition of bioactives is not in line, the extract is not effective.

After exhaustive research by our specialists, we concluded that the best way to obtain a high-quality Angelica extract was to use solvents that had no negative impact on the native composition of the plant; achieving an herbal extract of a not so high concentration, in this case, 8 times more concentrated than the original raw material, but with a guaranteed high content of Ligustilide and a spectrum of natural bioactives without degradation.

The traditional use of Angelica has led many scientists to be interested in its properties, and let's explain this:

Plants have properties, for example: Coffee (stimulants) are not magical in themselves, but because they have naturally present elements that have these properties, sometimes, the properties of a plant are due to a combination of different compounds that naturally converge in the plant.

In the case of coffee, its properties mainly come from its caffeine content; however, with Dong Quai? Well, that was the question that scientific researchers asked themselves: What does Dong Quai have to have such valued roots?

The research group of Yang et al. (2019) confirmed it:

'The volatile oil is one of the main effective components of A. sinensis, and ligustilide is the most abundant component in the volatile oil, accounting for approximately 60%'

Ligustilide is the main compound responsible for the attractiveness and interest aroused by the extract of Angelica sinensis, and therefore, we have worked specifically to select a Dong Quai extract that meets the condition of containing ligustilide in significant and stable amounts (standardized), so that whenever you use the extract, you can be sure that the functional quality of the product is always maximum.

The root is the part of Angelica that contains the highest content of natural oils, from which ligustilide is obtained.

Many companies market Dong Quai extracts prepared from parts of the plant that do not have the nutritional or functional recognition that the roots have, why? because they are cheaper.

Developed in vegetable capsules without the use of unnecessary additives

If I'm a man, can't I use Angelica sinensis? What properties does it have?

This question, although it may seem strange, is not, and it is very common to ask, just like with products that are characteristically associated with use by males, such as Tribulus Extract or D-Aspartic Acid which raise doubts for women about their use.
