Protein Sponge Cake Recipe

Today, we show you how to make a delicious protein sponge cake with an excellent nutritional profile so that you can enjoy your breakfasts, snacks, desserts… it does not matter!

Protein Sponge Cake

Ingredients:

  • Oats or Weetabix.
  • Egg whites.
  • 0% Fresh Whiped Cheese.
  • Whey to your taste.
  • Cinnamon (Optional).
  • Nuts (Optional).
  • Dehydrated Fruits like raisins, figs, dates… (Optional).

Note: The amounts will vary according to the requirements of each person, but these are the ingredients that I used to make it, so you can have a rough guideline:

  • 80gr of oats or 4 units of Weetabix.
  • 250ml of egg whites.
  • 250gr of 0% Fresh Whipped Cheese.
  • 1 scoop of Whey.
  • 30-40gr of nuts (walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts).
  • 1 spoonful of cinnamon powder.

Preparation:

Put the egg whites, oats or weetabix, and whey protein in a blender.

Blend until everything is well combined. Add the cinnamon and the nuts and stir with a spoon.

Pour all the blend in a bowl that is suitable for microwaves. Heat the mixture for 5-8 minutes at maximum power. This may vary depending on the microwave, so set the timer to 5 minutes and use a knife to determine if the sponge cake is properly cooked. If it is not, keep heating it for periods of 2 minutes and keep checking it.

Once it is ready, you can eat it while it is still hot or let it cool and eat it later. In the case of the example, what I usually do is: I cut the sponge cake in two halves, and I eat one for breakfast and another as an afternoon snack.

Those who have a sweet tooth can top it with a little bit of honey, which is perfectly fine after a demanding workout. Cream cheese is also a great choice.
