Diosmin Complex 450mg by HSN - Discover it!
Diosmin Complex 450mg from EssentialSeries is a food supplement developed using the best form of Diosmin: micronised, alongside acerola and bitter orange extracts to benefit from their Vitamin C and Hesperidin content, respectively.
The complex formula is designed to harness the benefits of combining two glycosidic flavonoids, Diosmin and Hesperidin, together with Vitamin C, an important and well-known antioxidant in diets worldwide.
HSN's Diosmin Complex is here to take its place in your selection of health-focused food supplements.
The power of Diosmin within your reach
What is Diosmin and why is it of interest?
Diosmin is a natural compound belonging to the flavonoid family, specifically glycosidic flavones. It is predominantly found in citrus fruits, especially in the peel of oranges and lemons. Structurally, it is derived from another flavonoid known as Hesperidin, a component included in the 'Complex' formula you are reading about. Diosmin is obtained by modifying a chemical group in Hesperidin to enhance its solubility and stability. This makes it functionally interesting as it retains the general characteristics of flavonoids with a structure that improves its bioavailability, making it one of the most recognised polyphenols for this feature.
The interest in Diosmin stems from its abundance in plant-based foods; however, as the highest concentration of this compound is found in inedible parts of citrus fruits (such as the peels), the use of Diosmin as a dietary supplement has become widespread to fully benefit from its effects.
What other elements does HSN's 'Complex' contain?
HSN's formula combines Diosmin with Vitamin C and Hesperidin.
Vitamin C, or ascorbic acid, is a water-soluble vitamin primarily found in citrus fruits (in this case, derived from acerola extract). It is an essential nutrient for humans because we cannot synthesise it, so it must be obtained through the diet. It is classified as a 'water-soluble' vitamin, and its functional importance is closely linked to the immune system and cell protection against oxidative agents.
Hesperidin, on the other hand, is a glycosidic flavonoid. It is abundant in citrus fruits such as orange and lemon peels. In fact, the formula's Hesperidin is derived from a bitter orange fruit extract standardised to Hesperidin content. Hesperidin is a key component in the plant matrix of citrus fruits, contributing to their structure and natural defence; and Diosmin is derived from it.
Diosmin + Hesperidin - A winning combo
Diosmin and Hesperidin are closely related, as the former is a derivative of the latter. During the conversion, Hesperidin oxidises its hydroxyl group on the flavonoid's B ring, resulting in a double bond formation in the central ring, transforming Hesperidin (a flavanone) into Diosmin (a flavone). This transformation does not significantly alter the compound's functional properties but enhances its solubility and stability, making it better suited as the 'core element' of the 'Diosmin Complex' formula.
In our formula, we combine both Hesperidin and Diosmin because their joint use is valuable. Hesperidin, as a flavonoid commonly found in dietary sources, contributes to an integral intake of flavonoids in the diet. Meanwhile, Diosmin, as a modified version that is far less present in fruits and vegetables, offers a complementary alternative with distinct phytochemical characteristics. This ensures that 'Diosmin Complex' is not limited to just this compound but is versatile and more interesting for use as a dietary supplement.
An HSN formula: Free from aesthetic additives
At HSN, we have always focused on formulating supplements that are not only effective but also efficient. Efficiency includes developing powder, capsule, and tablet formulas (as well as some less common formats like liquids) that do not rely on heavy use of additives.
Why?
Because it is unnecessary. Additives serve a specific role in formulas, and while we strive to minimise their presence, sometimes they are unavoidable. For example, Diosmin Complex 450mg contains magnesium stearate, which is the least present ingredient in the entire formula. Its inclusion is necessary because, due to the physical characteristics of plant extract powders, an anti-caking agent is needed to ensure the product remains easy to handle at home.
This is responsible use of additives; what is irresponsible is that some companies, due to lack of knowledge or experience, fill their products with additives, many of which are aesthetic, such as colourants or opacifiers in capsules. These additives are entirely unnecessary for the product's proper maintenance.
Why is Diosmin Micronised?
Micronisation is a mechanical process that reduces the particle size of a compound, such as Diosmin in this case, to create an extremely fine powder. Reducing particle size increases the specific surface area, meaning the total surface area available relative to the compound's mass. This increase in surface area allows greater contact with bodily fluids, facilitating its dissolution. By enhancing solubility, the compound is absorbed more efficiently in the gastrointestinal tract, increasing its bioavailability – the proportion that reaches systemic circulation and is available to exert its nutritional effect. This feature of micronisation is well-documented in scientific literature, as highlighted in the study by Rasenack et al. (2002). For this reason, many compounds used in dietary supplements are micronised.
We use micronised Diosmin because leading scientific research in the field consistently recommends this characteristic for high-value raw materials, making it a key criterion for a high-quality Diosmin-based dietary supplement (Lyseng-Williamson & Perry, 2003).
Unmissable formula properties
Diosmin Complex is packed with positive properties, not only due to the presence of Diosmin but also thanks to the accompanying extracts, standardised for significant nutrients.
Among the most notable effects of the formula are the properties of Vitamin C, which contribute to the normal function of the immune system and cell protection against oxidative damage.
Usage recommendations for Diosmin Complex
Two valid ways to use Diosmin Complex for athletes are:
- Close to training sessions.
- Away from training sessions.
The use of relevant antioxidant doses close to training:
Can have beneficial effects on athletes, but chronic supplementation of antioxidants close to training may hinder exercise adaptations and is only beneficial for individuals with low baseline antioxidant levels. (Pastor & Tur, 2019).
This is why using Diosmin Complex close to training is common among athletes during periods of high training load, such as near a significant competition. However, as a general rule, it is recommended to use it at least 4 hours before or after training.
For non-athletes, the timing of use is not critical. You can use Diosmin Complex in the morning or evening.

Effective
Mar García E. 29/03/2025
I used to buy Diosmin at the pharmacy and when I saw that HSN had included it in its catalog, I had no hesitation in trying it. The effect is the same but at a more economical price. I take one capsule at lunch and one at dinner. In my case it was recommended by my doctor for a hip pain problem (I never understood the reaction but it took away the pain). Totally recommended, I will continue to buy it.
