  • People with genetic glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency (a rare medical condition) may develop favism from bitter melon consumption, a rare hemolytic condition requiring medical attention. Although possible, this requires a rare disease and high bitter melon intake, so unless G6PD deficiency is known, this side effect is unlikely for most users.
  • Consult your doctor before use during breastfeeding, as well as in cases of liver disease due to possible effects on transaminases.
