Every year, we set ourselves different objectives and one of them is to bring awareness to the situation of these persons regarding politics, society, economy and culture.

That is why last year we started collaborating with the ADEMO Foundation in Madrid. Above all, their objective is to provide support and give opportunities to those who suffer intellectual or growth disabilities and their families. So that, in the end, they will be able to improve their quality of life and promote their inclusion as citizens with full rights in a fair and supportive society.

And what better way to do so than with sports?

Campeones Film

In HSN, we support their basketball team just like we do with other professional teams. In fact, the ADEMO Foundation basketball team will wear the colors of our brand.

We already did this last year in 2018, when we visited them in order to find out more about their work with persons with disabilities.
Some of the members of the basketball team from the ADEMO Foundation starred in the film Campeones. The film narrates the will to live and to become part of society of a group of people with intellectual disabilities.

Said film has won several prizes both in Spain and South America. But, most importantly, it gave visibility to the problems of a collective and how sports can help us work towards inclusion.

Adapted sport

The basketball team from the ADEMO Foundation participates in the regional competitions of the Madrid Sports Federation for persons with Disabilities (FEMADDI).

Founded in 2005, the objective is no other than socially integrate the members of their team. However, the ADEMO Foundation does not only work with this sport. In fact, they also have other teams that play football as well as other disciplines.

Currently, the FEMADDI has more than 1850 licenses of athletes with intellectual disabilities. Their objective? Encourage physical exercise among people with intellectual disabilities. Evidently, this is done according to the norms of the corresponding community as well as the national and international sport organizations.

International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2019

This year, the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) focuses on empowering people with disabilities for an inclusive, equal and sustainable growth, according to the United Nations.

What is the objective? Nobody is left behind, we have to start looking at disabilities as a transversal issue. Therefore, we need to implement the Objectives for a Sustainable Growth by the United Nations.

Why this date?

The General Assembly of the United Nations proclaimed the IDPD in 1992. Above all, its purpose is to promote the rights and well-being of all those who suffer a disability in any aspect of society.

From then, every December 3rd has commemorated this day. In fact, it is one of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) by the United Nations.

These goals refer to disability in regards to education, economic growth and employment, inequity and accessibility. In addition, it also contemplates gathering data and tracking the SDG.

The global population is around seven thousand million people. Well, approximately a 15% suffers some kind of disability. Therefore, it is extremely important that both public and private institutions work together to integrate and help them grow. HSN joins and supports every single one of them.
