Textured Pea Protein from FoodSeries is isolated pea protein, like the one you can find in our EssentialSeries line, but subjected to an extrusion process to achieve a unique consistency that allows its use, once rehydrated, as if it were ground beef.

Textured pea protein is a type of 'TVP', the English term for these preparations, developed as a way for people not used to consuming plant proteins to reduce their animal protein intake, and for those already following vegan diets to have alternatives with a rheology similar to traditional meat products, but without the consequences of the meat industry.

Textured pea protein has no added additives, fats, or other ingredients; it’s 100% pea protein, expertly prepared to get the best result without affecting its nutritional composition.

82% high-quality protein. With all essential amino acids

Pea protein is traditionally known as a high-quality plant protein source, especially when dehydrated, as it naturally has a high protein content with a good amino acid profile.

Often, it’s combined with cereals to improve its amino acid spectrum, but pea naturally contains all essential amino acids, no need to add them, as you can see in the amino acid profile of our textured pea protein.

Allergen-free. An alternative to extruded soy

A common TVP, the most well-known, is textured soy; which consists of soy bean protein that’s extracted, usually with added gums and other additives, plus fats like canola or palm oil to make extrusion easier and faster and achieve its 'texturization'.

In our case, we chose not only to skip additives, making the extrusion process of our textured protein take longer, but achieving a better final result in texture and flavor, and most importantly: without compromising its nutritional quality in any way.

Another advantage of our textured pea protein is the absence of allergens, since traditional soy and its products are allergenic due to soybeans; while pea is not; and not only that, but our textured pea protein isn’t mixed with other textured proteins like most products on the market, which usually mix with wheat protein, aka: gluten.

The usual process to prepare traditional TVP involves adding extra ingredients before extrusion to make the process easier.

This is problematic because the added ingredients reduce the total pea protein content, which is the food you want to consume, even in textured form; and often, the added compounds aren’t healthy, as they are fat sources that help protein extrusion.

However, we’ve tested until we got an ideal result, with the best texture and nutritional composition without adding ANYTHING.

Our textured pea protein is exactly that: 100% extruded pea protein isolate, with no additives of any kind.

It’s common for companies to use concentrated proteins for extruded foods, why? Because they’re cheaper.

Concentrated proteins have a better extraction rate from the original source, so their final protein content is lower, around 50-70%.

Cholesterol-free - Healthier than red meat

Extruded pea protein comes as a substitute for the texture and preparation ideas of ground red meat; and as a healthier alternative to this food.

Many international health organizations, like WHO, have warned about the high consumption of meat in Western populations, especially red and processed meat, and urge people to increase plant protein sources as a partial replacement for animal sources; however, this can be tough, since the closest substitute so far has been tofu, which realistically differs significantly from meat in every way: texture, flavor, consistency, etc. Although it can be deliciously prepared, it’s NOT a meat substitute as such.

Textured pea protein IS, with organoleptic properties equivalent to meat in flavor and texture, and all the good protein benefits of red meat, without cholesterol and with much less saturated fat. Perfect for those who want to take care of themselves.

How to prepare it? HSN recommendations

The simplest way to prepare it is to cook it for 10-15 minutes, and it’s ready to eat.

Another option is to boil water in a pot or microwave-safe bowl and pour it over the textured protein, letting it sit for 15 minutes to rehydrate.

But don’t limit yourself to that, because you can use the 'crisp' textured pea protein to make tons of recipes, from something keeping its traditional form: like ground meat for a pasta Bolognese sauce; to shaping it into meat-like clusters, like burgers or meatballs, but vegan style.

Once rehydrated, you can prepare textured pea protein however you want:
