History and interesting facts about lungwort
Pulmonaria officinalis is a perennial plant native to Europe and Asia, known for its unique beauty and traditional uses. Although its flowers and leaves are striking, a key part of its value is in its roots. The roots of lungwort are thick and robust. These roots have been collected and studied throughout history due to their natural components.
Today, lungwort root extract has gained prominence due to its studied properties1. Through the extraction processes, the native root of this species can be concentrated to increase the intake of naturally occurring bioactives per unit. The lungwort extract we use in our product is 10 times more concentrated, which makes it easy to use with just one vegetable capsule.
Why use the root?
We use lungwort root as the native element in our extract due to its high concentration of bioactive compounds that accumulate in this part of the plant. Throughout its life cycle, the root acts as a reservoir of nutrients, phytochemicals, and other phytoelements, making it a powerful and stable source of unique properties and characteristics. By extracting and concentrating these compounds, the lungwort complex extract can harness the potency the root offers in a more concentrated form, which wouldn't be possible with other parts of the plant.
High-concentration extraction
A 10 times more concentrated lungwort root extract, like the one we use at HSN, is superior to consuming the native root because it maximises the amount of compounds present in the preparation, allowing you to get the effects in smaller, more effective doses. By concentrating the key components of the root, such as its phytochemicals,we achieve a greater potency in the final product. This not only makes it easier to consume, as you only need one vegetable capsule per day, but also ensures consistency in the plant’s quality and processing, which can vary in the native root depending on growth and harvest conditions, as cultivation batches are not always as standardised. This is not the case with extracts.
Broad-spectrum natural composition
The root of lungwort (Pulmonaria officinalis) contains various bioactive compounds that give it interesting properties. Among these compounds we find polyphenols, such as flavonoids, as well as Triterpenic compounds. Additionally, lungwort root contains allantoin, a more specific element. These bioactives work together to contribute to the overall properties of the plant.
Although we usually emphasise the importance of standardising the most relevant compounds in a plant extract, when the characteristic compounds are not clearly defined, or the composition’s attributes are global to the plant rather than any specific element, broad-spectrum extracts where no particular elements are isolated or standardised are the best choice. This is why our lungwort extract is not standardised.
Complex - With NAC and Vit D3 - Complete action
The lungwort extract we offer not only contains the concentrated lungwort root but is also a complex in itself. It includes additional elements that support the overall formula:
- NAC (N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine): A derivative of the amino acid L-cysteine. N-acetylcysteine is formed by adding an acetyl group to cysteine, making it more soluble and bioavailable. It is biologically related to glutathione.
- Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol): A form of vitamin D produced in the skin when exposed to ultraviolet radiation from the sun. It is one of the two main forms of vitamin D. Vitamin D3 is present in small amounts in animal-based foods, such as fatty fish, liver, and egg yolks.
Among the other properties of Vitamin D, its contribution to the normal functioning of the immune system is particularly relevant to the product’s significance.
Can be combined with other HSN formulas. Try it with Respi Biotics!
The lungwort extract, as well as other elements in the formula (NAC and Vitamin D), is fully compatible with any type of compound typically used in dietary supplements.

This product is an excellent formula for my case. As a smoker for many years, and having quit completely, I needed to detoxify my lungs. When I discovered this product I saw the sky open up and it seems to me a sensational formula to take care of myself. Really, a great success.
