Functions of Maltodextrin

Maltodextrin is one of the starch-derived carbohydrates commonly used as a supplement in athletes, due to its easy energy conversion and effects on performance and recovery.

• Carbohydrates contribute to the restoration of normal muscle function (contraction) following high-intensity or long-duration physical exercise that leads to muscular fatigue and depletion of glycogen stored in skeletal muscles.

The beneficial effect is obtained by consuming carbohydrates from all sources at a total intake of 4 g per kg of body weight, in doses taken within four hours (or at most six) after completing a high-intensity or long-duration physical exercise that leads to muscular fatigue and glycogen depletion.

• Carbohydrate solutions contribute to enhanced physical performance during high-intensity and long-duration exercise in trained adults.

The beneficial effect is exclusively related to trained adults who perform high-intensity physical exercise (at least 65% of VO2max) and of long duration (at least 60 minutes).
